2007-now Microsoft and NHS Common User Interface (CUI)
Employment context: User Research Lead on the Microsoft UK National Health Service (NHS) Common User Interface (CUI) project that produces Design Guidance and controls to support the creation of safer, more usable and compelling health applications. Responsibilities included:
- Aligning User Experience best practices with Patient Safety Assessment with best-practices in the design process.
- Managing the research team to effectively conduct convincing, trustworthy, publishable research exercises.
- Planning and conducting user evaluations of CUI developer toolkit and design guidelines using a range of techniques including Card Sorting, Cognitive Walkthroughs, Focus groups, Patient Safety Assessments, and Interviews.
- Effectively recruiting healthcare professionals to participate in research activities.
- Developing Persona’s to guide the development of the toolkit and guidelines to ensure they will positively impact NHS patient safety.
- Developing Microsoft junior staff by providing hands-on experience of high quality diverse User Experience research strategies.
- Creating project intellectual property in the form of potentially publishable research summaries.
